The Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm

Song: Disarm
Artist: The Smashing Pumpkins
Album: Siamese Dream

The Smashing Pumpkins is an American rock band from Chicago, Illinois.

The song Disarm is the third single from The Smashing Pumpkins second album. The album Siamese Dream was released in 1993. I think the song about a tumultuous and probably abusive relationship between a child and their parent(s) or guardian(s). My interpretation of the lyric "I used to be a little boy, so old in my shoes" was that it's about a child who grew up too fast and was forced by his circumstances to shoulder the responsibility of someone much older than himself. The music video is for the most part black and white. It shows the band floating above a house, performing the song, while home movie like clips show a child outside. It is a haunting rock song. Billy Corgan's voice is great, and the lyrics and music are excellent.

"Disarm"

Disarm you with a smile
And cut you like you want me to
Cut that little child
Inside of me and such a part of you
Ooh, the years burn

I used to be a little boy
So old in my shoes
And what I choose is my choice
What's a boy supposed to do?
The killer in me is the killer in you
My love
I send this smile over to you

Disarm you with a smile
And leave you like they left me here
To wither in denial
The bitterness of one who's left alone
Ooh, the years burn
Ooh, the years burn, burn, burn

I used to be a little boy
So old in my shoes
And what I choose is my voice
What's a boy supposed to do?
The killer in me is the killer in you
My love
I send this smile over to you

The killer in me is the killer in you
Send this smile over to you
The killer in me is the killer in you
Send this smile over to you
The killer in me is the killer in you
Send this smile over to you

Seether - Fake It

Song: Fake It
Artist: Seether
Album: Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces

Seether is a rock band from South Africa.

Fake It is the first single from Seether's 2007 album Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces. I think the song Fake It is about people (in the music industry or in ordinary life) being fake. The lyrics are calling someone out for being fake. The lyrics refer to the person the song is speaking to as a "hypocrite". I think it's about pretending to be someone you're not to get something. The music video for the song shows the band making a music video, and shows them in an airplane with scantily clad models dancing around, and in the middle of the woods. The video shows that a bunch of stuff in the video is faked by way of green screen, and computer generated imaging. The music is loud, energetic rock n' roll. I love lead singer Shaun Morgan's voice.

"Fake It"

Who's to know if your soul will fade at all
The one you sold to fool the world
You lost your self-esteem along the way
Yeah

[Chorus:]

Good god you're coming up with reasons
Good god you're dragging it out
Good god it's the changing of the seasons
I feel so raped
So follow me down
And just fake it if you're out of direction
Fake it if you don't belong here
Fake it if you feel like affection
Woah you're such a fucking hypocrite

And you should know that the lies won't hide your flaws
No sense in hiding all of yours
You gave up on your dreams along the way
Yeah

[Chorus]

Whoah
Whoah

I can fake with the best of anyone
I can fake with the best of em all
I can fake with the best of anyone
I can fake it all

Who's to know if your soul will fade at all
The one you sold to fool the world
You lost your self-esteem along the way
Yeah

[Chorus]

Fake it if you're out of direction
Fake it if you don't belong here
Fake it if you feel like affection
Woah you're such a fucking hypocrite
