Pearl Jam - Jeremy

Song: Jeremy
Artist: Pearl Jam
Album: Ten

Pearl Jam is an American rock band from Seattle, Washington.

Jeremy is the third single from Pearl Jam's 1991 debut album Ten. Lead vocalist Eddie Vedder got his inspiration for the song primarily from an article about a boy named Jeremy who commited suicide by shooting himself in front of his english class. I think the song is about how some people bully and abuse other people until they break them down, about the damage caused by abusive families and peers. And also about how killing yourself does nothing to fix this. By doing that you're just dead and there's no point to that. It reminds me of the saying "living well is the best revenge". The music video for the song shows scenes of Jeremy's life alternately with scenes of Eddie Vedder singing, and ends with Jeremy shooting himself in class and his classmates frozen with blood splattered on their clothing. I really like the bass in this song, and Eddie Vedder's voice is really good. Jeremy is a great song.

"Jeremy"

At home
Drawing pictures
Of mountain tops
With him on top
Lemon yellow sun
Arms raised in a V
Dead lay in pools of maroon below

Daddy didn't give attention
To the fact that mommy didn't care
King Jeremy the wicked
Ruled his world

Jeremy spoke in class today
Jeremy spoke in class today

Clearly I remember
Pickin' on the boy
Seemed a harmless little fuck
But we unleashed a lion
Gnashed his teeth
And bit the recess lady's breast

How could I forget
He hit me with a surprise left
My jaw left hurting
Dropped wide open
Just like the day
Like the day I heard

Daddy didn't give affection
And the boy was something that mommy wouldn't wear
King Jeremy the wicked
Ruled his world

Jeremy spoke in class today
Jeremy spoke in class today
Try to forget this...
Try to erase this...
From the blackboard.

Rise Against - Survivor Guilt

Song: Survivor Guilt
Artist: Rise Against
Album: Endgame

Rise Against is an American punk rock band from Chicago, Illinois.

Survivor Guilt is from Rise Against's sixth studio album, Endgame, which was released on March 15 2011. The beginning of the song features this clip from the 1970 film Catch 22. "What are you talking about? America isn't going to be destroyed."

"Never? Rome was destroyed, Greece was destroyed, Persia was destroyed, Spain was destroyed. All great countries are destroyed. Why not yours? How much longer do you really think your own country will last? Forever?"

The song is an anti-war song. I think it's about soldiers going off and dying for someone else's battle. I think it might also be about how the government doesn't do what it should to help soldiers who've been injured and the families of soldiers who've been killed. About giving all you have for something that wasn't worth the price. I think it's about how war is pointless, and not the way to solve anything. And about how most wars are started for very stupid reasons. How the people in charge are hypocrites who care more about money than a human life. People tell their children that fighting isn't the way to solve problems, yet look at the world. There is another clip from the same film in the middle of the song. "You're a shameful opportunist! What you don't understand is that it's better to die on your feet than to live on your knees."

"You have it backwards. It's better to live on your feet than to die on your knees. I know."
I really love this song. I like the lyrics, the message and the music.

"Survivor Guilt"

Block the entrances, close the doors
Seal the exits because this is war

All gave some, some gave all
But for what I wanna know

Carry on, don't mind me
All I gave was everything
And yet you ask me for more
Fought your fight
Bought your lies
In return I lost my life
What purpose does this serve?

A folded flag
A purple heart
A family all but torn apart

And I fought with courage to preserve
Not my way of life but yours

Carry on, don't mind me
All I gave was everything
And yet you ask me for more
Fought your fight
Bought your light
In return I lost my life
What purpose does this serve?

The cowards preach on pedestals
With words of courage and resolve
But what they meant was fuck them all
Because freedom isn't free

They send our daughters and our sons
To deserts under burning suns
A Sacrificial slaughtering
To fill the pockets of the weak

An artificial enemy
Are we so easily deceived?
They carry on

Don't carry on
Just walk away
How many more sent to their graves
In this lesson ignored?

I fought your fight
Bought your lie
In return I lost my life
What purpose does this serve?
What purpose did I serve?

Bleeker Ridge - Easier Today

Song: Easier Today
Artist: Bleeker Ridge
Album: Small Town Dead

Bleeker Ridge is a Canadian rock band from Orillia, Ontario.

Easier Today is from Bleeker Ridge's debut album Small Town Dead which was released September 21, 2010. I think the song Easier Today is about parents wanting their kids to be like them and do what society's idea of normal is. Go to college, get a job and start a family. But the kid is saying no, that they aren't the same person their parent is. That they are their own person and will live their own life and do what they want. And when parents try to control their children it just makes the kid want to leave even more. The song has a strong, hard rock sound that I love and lead singer Taylor Perkins' vocals are awesome. I think this a really great song.

"Easier Today"

I said just take it easy on me!

Into the fire, I throw a life
A life that you made up, I'm starting to wake up
I know who you are, it's not who I am
I'm turning into you, I don't want to be you
I'm not you

A face like me, a voice like mine
But that's where it ends, there's nothing else

I said just take it easy on me!
It doesn't help when you're screaming at me (screaming at me)
Why would I ever stay?

It wouldn't be hard to leave, you made it easier today

You'll get a job, yeah you'll go to school
You'll be like your old man, yeah you'll do what I do
No I have a choice, yeah I know I do
And it's time to stand up, or stand up to you
I'm not you.

You made it easier today.
It's easier today.

LeATHERMØUTH - Sunsets Are For Muggings (Explicit Lyrics)

Song: Sunsets Are For Muggings
Artist: LeATHERMØUTH
Album: XØ

LeATHERMØUTH is an American hardcore rock band from New Jersey.

LeATHERMØUTH is the side project of My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero. The song Sunsets Are For Muggings is from LeATHERMØUTH's debut (and so far only) album XØ which was released January of 2009. The song is about being depressed and the people who are supposed to help you not really caring about you and just giving you drugs that don't really work. About doctors who are supposed to help not caring about the person only caring about getting paid. Frank Iero uses LeATHERMØUTH as a way to vent his frustrations about the world. The song is loud, fast paced and angry. I really like the music, the lyrics and Frank's screaming/singing, you can hear the anger in his voice. This song is really powerful.

"Sunsets Are For Muggings"

This is for the kids who ain't got no soul
Never think twice, got nowhere to go
This is for the pills that never fucking work
But its hard to see blood on a black t-shirt
They'll never understand cause they were understood
An open minded fake in a bright white coat
Tell me what you wanna know
About my bleeding fucking heart
I'll pass all your tests
Cause I lie like the best
Life is a fight
They never really listen
Cause they never fucking care
The way I feel inside
They can never fucking hear
All they wanna know about is insurance cards
This pain I have inside has made me fucking strong
Life is a fight
Never found a place I felt I fit
Never met someone who gave a shit
But I believe in what we fucking got now
We got a chance to set it off
Never found a place I felt I fit
Never met someone who gave a shit
Lets take a stand against feeling lost
This is our chance to set it off
You'll never take me alive
Because we're already dead
You'll never take me alive
Because we're already dead inside.

Papa Roach - Hollywood Whore

Song: Hollywood Whore
Artist: Papa Roach
Album: Metamorphosis

Papa Roach is an American rock band from California.

Hollywood Whore is the first single from Papa Roach's 2009 album Metamorphosis. Metamorphosis is the band's sixth album. I think the song Hollywood Whore is about the shallow, fake girls of Hollywood, who starve themselves, do hard drugs and have plastic surgery until nothing about them is real. About someone who has no real life, just a fake image of who they try to be. Lead vocalist Jacoby Shaddix is calling out this person for being fake and plastic. The music video shows the band playing in front of a young woman (the Hollywood Whore). I really like Jacoby's facial expressions in the video. I love the guitar and bass in this song and Jacoby's voice is awesome. I really like the meaning behind the lyrics. This is a great song.

"Hollywood Whore"

Hollywood whore,
Passed out on the floor,
I'm sorry but the party's over.

Cocaine nose,
And trendy clothes,
Gotta send her to rehab.
She found out she's got no soul,
But it really doesn't bother her.
White trash queen,
American dream-
Oh, what a role model.
Throwing a fit,
Making a scene,
Like no tomorrow.

Hollywood whore,
Passed out on the floor,
Can't take it no more,
I'm sorry but the party's over.
The talk of the town,
Is she's going down.
I'm sorry but the party's over NOW.

Awake by noon, drunk by 4.
Sucked up in the show biz.
You're so lame,
You're such a bore,
I wanna kick your teeth in.
Plastic smile,
To match your style-
We can tell you got a face lift.
You're so vain, oh so vile,
You're a number one hit.

Hollywood whore,
Passed out on the floor,
Can't take it no more,
I'm sorry but the party's over.
The talk of the town,
Is she's going down,
I'm sorry but the party's over.

The cameras are gone,
And nobody screams.
She couldn't survive her 15 minutes of fame.
Her friends are all gone,
She's going insane.
She'll never survive without the money and fame.
It's all going down the drain.

Hollywood whore,
Passed out on the floor,
I'm sorry but the party's over.
The talk of the town,
Is she's going down.
I'm sorry but the party's over

Hollywood whore,
Passed out on the floor,
I'm sorry but the party's over.
The talk of the town,
Is she's going down,
I'm sorry but the party's over.

Wake up!!!!!
The party's over
NOW

Hahaha

Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya, hunny.
Hahaha...

Seether - Rise Above This

Song: Rise Above This
Artist: Seether
Album: Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces

Seether is a South African rock band .

Rise Above This is from Seether's fourth studio album which was released in October of 2007. The song Rise Above This was written for Seether lead singer Shaun Morgan's brother Eugene who suffered from depression. Sadly Eugene commited suicide after the song was written. The music video for the song show the band playing in a room in a building while alternately showing a young man on the roof of what I presume is the same building. The young man drops a picture of his family off the building before jumping himself. As the man jumps members of his family including lead vocalist Shaun Morgan are seen falling too. I think the meaning behind this is that when he killed himself the people who loved him died a little too. At the end of some TV showings of the video a picture of Eugene and the phone number for a suicide hotline is shown. Rise Above This is a really great song. And the anti-suicide message is good and much needed today.

"Rise Above This"

Take the light, and darken everything around me
call the clouds and listen closely, I'm lost without you
Call your name every day when i feel so helpless
I'm fallin' down but I'll rise above this, rise above this

Hate the mind, regrets are better left unspoken
For all we know, this void will grow and
Everything's in vain, distressing you though it leaves me open
Feels so right, but I'll end this all before it gets me

Call your name every day, when i feel so helpless
I'm fallin' down, but I'll rise above this, rise above this
Call your name every day, when i seem so helpless
I'm fallin' down, but I'll rise above this, rise above this doubt

I'll mend myself before it gets me
(I'll mend myself before it gets me)
I'll mend myself before it gets me
(I'll mend myself before it gets me)

Call your name every day, when i feel so helpless
I'm fallin' down, but I'll rise above this, rise above this
Call your name every day, when i seem so helpless
I'm fallin' down, but I'll rise above this, rise above this
Forty eight ways to say that I'm feelin' helpless
Fallin' down, fallin down', but I'll rise above this, rise above this

Apocalyptica - Not Strong Enough

Song: Not Strong Enough
Artist: Apocalyptica (Featuring Brent Smith)
Album: 7th Symphony

Apocalyptica is a Finnish metal band from Helsinki, Finland.

Not Strong Enough is the third single from Apocalyptica's 2010 album 7th Symphony. 7th Symphony is the bands seventh studio album. I think the song Not Strong Enough is about someone (and sung from this person's point of view) who is in a relationship where part of him wants to leave because he knows the relationship isn't good but he can't because he's so attached to the object of his love. This person feels that he is not strong enough to walk away. As Apocalytica has no singer and most of their songs have no lyrics this song features guest singer Brent Smith. Brent Smith is the lead singer of American rock band Shinedown. I love Apocalyptica's music. The melding of classical music and metal is amazing.

"Not Strong Enough"

I'm not strong enough to stay away.
Can't run from you
I just run back to you.
Like a moth I'm drawn in to your flame,
Say my name, but it's not the same.
You look in my eyes I'm stripped of my pride.
And my soul surrenders and you bring my heart to its knees.

[Chorus:]
And it's killin' me when you're away, I wanna leave and I wanna stay.
I'm so confused,So hard to choose.
Between the pleasure and the pain.
And I know it's wrong, and I know it's right.
Even if I try to win the fight, my heart would overrule my mind.
And I'm not strong enough to stay away

I'm not strong enough to stay away
What can I do
I would die without you
In your presence my heart knows no shame
I'm not to blame
Cause you bring my heart to its knees

[Chorus]

There's nothing I can do
My heart is chained to you
And I can't get free
Look what this love's done to me

[Chorus]

I'm not strong enough, strong enough
I'm not strong enough, strong enough
I'm not strong enough to stay away
I'm not strong enough, strong enough
I'm not strong enough, strong enough
I'm not strong enough to stay away

Cage The Elephant - Shake Me Down

Song: Shake Me Down
Artist: Cage The Elephant
Album: Thank You Happy Birthday

Cage The Elephant is an American rock band from Kentucky.

Shake Me Down is the first single off Cage The Elephant's second album which was released January 11, 2011. I think the song Shake Me Down is about someone who has regrets about their life and can't fix them and also can't let them go. About someone who is dwelling on the past and that makes their present unhappy. I think the song is from the point of view of someone who has seen this person's mistakes and doesn't want to do the same thing. The music video for the song shows a man reliving his childhood memories with members of the band playing in his memories. The man is presumably reliving these memories as he dies. I really like lead singer Matthew Shultz voice. Sometimes (especially on this song) I think that Cage The Elephant sound like they were influenced by Kings Of Leon and Nirvana. I really enjoy listening to this song.

"Shake Me Down"

Shake me down,
Not a lot of people left around,
Who knows now,
Softly laying on the ground, ooooh
Not a lot people left around, ooooh. ooooh

In my life, I have seen,
People walk into the sea,
Just to find memories,
Plagued by constant misery,
Their eyes cast down,
Fixed upon the ground,
Their eyes cast down

I'll keep my eyes fixed on the sun

Shake me down,
Cut my hair on a silver cloud,
Broken sound,
Softly laying on the ground, ooooh
Not a lot people left around, ooooh, ooooh

In my past, bittersweet,
There's no love between the sheets,
Taste the blood, broken dreams,
Lonely times indeed,
With eyes cast down,
Fixed upon the ground,
Eyes cast down

I'll keep my eyes fixed on the sun

Turn back now its time for me to let go,
Way down had to find a place to lay low,
Lampshade turned around into a light post

Walk around the corner,
Never saw it coming still,
I try to make a move,
It almost stopped me from belief,
I don't wanna know the future,
But I'm like rolling thunder,

Even on a cloudy day,
Even on a cloudy day,
Even on a cloudy day,
Even on a cloudy day,
Even on a cloudy day,
Even on a cloudy day,
Even on a cloudy day,

I'll keep my eyes fixed on the-
I'll keep my eyes fixed on the-
I'll keep my eyes fixed on the sun

Shake me down,
Not a lot of people left around, ooooh, ooooh

Avenged Sevenfold - Burn It Down (Explicit Lyrics)

Song: Burn It Down
Artist: Avenged Sevenfold
Album: City Of Evil

Avenged Sevenfold is an American metal band from Huntington Beach, California.

Burn It Down is from Avenged Sevenfold's third studio album City Of Evil, released in 2005. I think the song Burn It Down is about hating someone and wanting revenge on them for something they did, but getting lost in that hatred until it's the only thing you can see. I think the song is about a person consumed by hatred for someone who betrayed them. Lead guitarist Synyster Gates' guitar work is fantastic and I really like lead vocalist M. Shadows' voice. I love the sound of this song. It's loud and high energy and just a great hard rock/metal song.

"Burn It Down"

Jealousy's an ugly word, but you don't seem to care
Converse behind my back, but now I'm here
Need no one to comply with me through everyone that I defeat
Don't need you, fuck camaraderie, this rage will never go away

Hatred fuels my blood, I'll burn ya down (you can't help me)
One king to watch the horsemen fall, I'll fight 'til the end (I won't help you)
I can't trust anyone, see it in my eyes
Now I can understand, it's sorrow that feeds your lies

You're on my back when the water gets too deep for you to breath
A crutch for you that won't always be there
Hide in the dark another day, the fear in you is here to stay
So keep the fuck away from me and learn to trust the words I say

Hatred fuels my blood, I'll burn ya down (you can't help me)
One king to watch the horsemen fall, I'll fight 'til the end (I won't help you)
I can't trust anyone, witness and see it in my eyes
Now I can understand, put faith in you for the last time
It's sorrow that feeds your lies

Run from me before I tear you down (be afraid)
You chose the wrong side (it feels so right)
I won't help you, let you rot away (despise what you say)
Run towards the light exposing your soul (we won't be there by your side)
Salvation's dying (somebody's crying)
We're all gone in the end, sweet child we'll miss you
No, so far away, far away

I can't trust anyone, witness and see it in my eyes
Now I can understand, put faith in you for the last time
It's sorrow that feeds your lies

Falling away, can't buy back time
Burned it down anyways

Bad Religion - Submission Complete

Song: Submission Complete
Artist: Bad Religion
Album: New Maps Of Hell

Bad Religion is an American punk rock band from California.

The song Submission Complete is from Bad Religion's fourteenth full length studio album released on July 10th 2007. I think the song Submission Complete is about how people are controlled by authority figures and people who see only one way of living and want to bend everyone else to that idea. Bad Religion lead vocalist Greg Graffin said in an interview about the song "This is supposed to give all those teenagers some hope that they don't have to submit to some outdated, rigid, nonsensical belief system". I really like the sound and the lyrics of this song.

"Submission Complete"

Dedication is the price you pay: the initiated are
Coddled and caged
Before you walk, as soon as you crawl
Hope is pointless 'cuz you're stuck in the trawl

Fuck the freshman lectures and brandishments
They just betray impoverished accomplishments
The puppet masters fear originality
They tighten up the tethers and they shackle your feet
Submission complete!

Young recruits never have a chance, enticed to
The drill, admonished to dance
Early to rise and early to shine, life is long but the end is nigh

Break the guilty trammels from yesteryear
Remember how rejuvenation conquers all fears
Lowly opportunists take commanding roles
And hawk ultimatums so their weakness won't show

The sad reflection of dead ambition
You live for nothing
Submission complete!

Yeah, break the guilty trammels from yesteryear
Remember how the taste of failure makes it all clear
The lowly opportunists take commanding roles
And hawk ultimatums so their weakness won't show

The sad reflection of dead ambition
You live for nothing

Expectation, indoctrination
Life's a damnation
Submission complete!

Dying on your feet
Submission complete
A total defeat

Alice In Chains - Rooster

Song: Rooster
Artist: Alice In Chains
Album: Dirt

Alice In Chains is an American rock band from Seattle, Washington.

Alice In Chains was formed in 1987 and was part of the grunge movement of the early 1990s. Rooster is from Alice In Chains second studio album Dirt which was released in 1992. The song was released as a single in 1993. Rooster was written by Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell about his father Jerry Cantrell Sr.'s experience while serving in the US army during the Vietnam War. The lyrics are quite clearly about a soldier in a war, away from home, in a scary place and missing his family. About the hell that is war. Part of the music video was filmed on property belonging to Cantrell's family and clips from the 1986 movie Platoon were also used. I love the sound of the song. It's kind of trippy while at the same time being hard rock. Rooster is one of my favorite Alice In Chains songs.

"Rooster"

Ain't found a way to kill me yet
Eyes burn with stinging sweat
Seems every path leads me to nowhere
Wife and kids household pet
Army green was no safe bet
The bullets scream to me from somewhere

Here they come to snuff the rooster
Yeah here come the rooster, yeah [2x]
You know he ain't gonna die
No, no, no, ya know he ain't gonna die

Walkin' tall machine gun man
They spit on me in my home land
Gloria sent me pictures of my boy
Got my pills 'gainst mosquito death
My buddy's breathin' his dyin' breath
Oh god please won't you help me make it through

Here they come to snuff the rooster
Yeah here come the rooster, yeah
You know he ain't gonna die
No, no, no ya know he ain't gonna die
